SM City Mindpro Strengthens Safety Culture Through Participation in Nationwide Fire Drill

Zamboanga City — Demonstrating its steadfast commitment to safety and disaster readiness, SM City Mindpro actively took part in the 5th SM and BFP Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill, in partnership with Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 9 – Zamboanga City Fire District.

The fire drill commenced promptly at 8:00 AM, with full participation from tenants and employees of SM City Mindpro. Upon activation of the alarm system, the mall’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) immediately implemented standard emergency protocols — securing key areas, coordinating with tenants, and directing everyone toward designated evacuation sites.

Observed by BFP personnel, the evacuation process was carried out smoothly and in an orderly manner. Employees and tenants calmly proceeded to assembly areas, reflecting the effectiveness of regular safety orientations and preparedness training conducted by the mall management.

Following the evacuation drill, BFP personnel facilitated a fire extinguisher simulation exercise, providing participants with hands-on experience in properly operating fire extinguishers during emergency situations. The practical demonstration further strengthened the confidence and capability of employees and tenants in responding to potential fire incidents.

The 5th SM and BFP Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill underscores SM’s proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and its continued collaboration with government authorities to uphold the highest safety standards.

“Safety remains our top priority. Through initiatives like this, we continuously assess and enhance our preparedness to ensure a safe and secure environment for our shoppers, tenants, and employees,” shared SM City Mindpro’s Mall Manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez.

By cultivating a culture of vigilance, coordination, and responsibility, SM City Mindpro reaffirms its role as a reliable community partner committed to protecting lives and property.

SM and BFP Celebrate Fire Prevention Month with ‘Women on Fire’ Initiative

In celebration of Fire Prevention Month and National Women’s Month, SM Cares, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), successfully conducted the 4th SM & BFP Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill on March 4, 2025. This year’s event also launched ‘Women on Fire,’ a nationwide campaign recognizing the leadership, strength, and resilience of women in fire prevention, disaster response, and community safety.

SM and the Bureau of Fire Protection light the MOA Complex with 180 fire trucks forming the ‘Venus Symbol’ to mark the celebration of Women’s Month and Fire Prevention Month this March 2025.

Held across SM malls nationwide, with SM Mall of Asia as the main venue, the initiative highlighted SM Cares’ commitment to disaster preparedness and gender inclusivity in fire safety.

Women on Fire: Recognizing Women in Fire Safety

‘Women on Fire’ honored female firefighters, emergency responders, and safety advocates through forums, educational exhibits, and leadership discussions on disaster resilience and gender-inclusive safety programs.

“Women have always played a vital role in ensuring safety. Through ‘Women on Fire,’ we recognize their contributions and reinforce the importance of gender-inclusive fire prevention efforts,” said Atty. Pearly Joan Turley, Senior Assistant Vice President of the Corporate Compliance Group and SM Cares Program Director for Women & Breastfeeding Mothers.

Nationwide Fire Drill: Strengthening Community Preparedness

The drill, in collaboration with BFP personnel, SM employees, tenants, students, and local stakeholders, simulated real-life fire scenarios, reinforcing proper evacuation, fire suppression, and emergency coordination techniques.
