SM Foundation goes beyond building, ensures lasting quality learning environments

SM Foundation continues to advocate for quality education in the country by taking a proactive approach to ensure the longevity and optimal condition of the school buildings it has built.

In photo is the Looc Elementary School, which is set to undergo the maintenance, following SM Foundation mission to ensure optimal condition of the school buildings it has built.

Recently, the foundation refurbished the school buildings of Kalalake Elementary School in Olongapo, Tuba Central School in Benguet, and Mantagbac Elementary School in Daet City, Camarines Norte.

According to SM Foundation School Building Program head Juris Soliman, the rehabilitation has been part of the organization's maintenance program for donated school facilities. This ensures they create an environment that enables learning, teacher satisfaction, and a sense of pride within the communities they serve.

The improvements include replacing exterior ceilings, repainting walls and ceilings, fixing or installing new roof gutters in preparation for the rainy season, and refreshing paint colors.

SM Foundation refurbished the Tuba Elementary School, along with several other school constructed in 2019.

Soliman added that the SM Foundation undertakes repairs in schools every five years or sooner, depending on the building's condition while immediate repairs are carried out in cases of damage caused by typhoons or natural disasters.

Aside from this, the foundation is slated to repair other school buildings in Pedro Candido Memorial National High School in Hernani, Eastern Samar; Looc Elementary School in Nasugbu, Batangas; Zamboanga Central School-SPED Center in Zamboanga City; Balanga Elementary School in Balanga, Bataan; and Villa Kananga Integrated School in Butuan City, ensuring they are ready to welcome students for the upcoming school year.

Through this initiative, SM Foundation continues to push forth high-quality educational infrastructure, even long after the initial construction phase. Since 2002, the school building program has constructed 108 school buildings to date. (SM Foundation)

The 8th Kasalan sa SM, a heartwarming mass wedding, is held at the Shrine of Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life Church in Pasay City.

In honor of SM Group matriarch Felicidad Sy, known as Nanang, Kasalan sa SM has brought faith and matrimony to communities for nearly a decade.

The success of the event wouldn't have been possible without the generous contributions of Kultura's Barong Filipino and Berches Barong, who provided Barong Tagalogs for all the grooms. Goldilocks also played a key role by sponsoring the 16 wedding cakes, and Gandang Ricky Reyes ensured a memorable experience for the brides with their hair and makeup services. Their support made the day truly special for the couples and their families.

These initiatives provide accessible places of worship for Catholic mall-goers and the communities SM serves.
