SM Celebrates 2nd Mindanao-wide Chocolate Fair

SM malls in Mindanao transformed into a chocolate paradise to simultaneously celebrate the rich cacao and chocolate industries of the island through the 2nd Cacao Mindanao Artisan Chocolate Fair slated June 2-4, 2023.

Mindanao’s best chocolatiers will gather in one roof as SM Lanang, SM City Davao, SM City Mindpro, SM City Gensan, SM City Butuan, and SM CDO Downtown unite in a bid to put the whole Mindanao chocolate industry on the world map.

SM City Mindpro launched its 2nd Cacao Mindanao Artisan Chocolate Fair which was attended by (L-R) City Information Officer Ms. Sheila Belen Covarrubias, SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Ms. Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez, Department of Trade and Industry 9 Regional Director Engr. Al-Zamir Lipae, and City Executive Assistant Ms. Raisa Hojas Fernandez.

SM City Mindpro features nine local and regional cacao growers and processors from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur, and Zamboanga Del Norte namely Sindangan FACOMA Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Barcelona Innovative Cacao Growers (BICAGROW) Agriculture Cooperative, Midsalip Farmers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MIFAMCO), GASA Processed Foods Manufacturing, Marya Soaps & Scents, Piñan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Onitz Food Products, and Nanan Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

In Davao City, SM Lanang and SM City Davao joined hands with the City Government of Davao, Department of Agriculture, and the Philippine Cacao Board to showcase the region’s top chocolatiers and cacao producers MS3, Dais Chocolate, Cacao Culture, and Cacao de Davao, Cocolibre Corp., Household Multipurpose Cooperative, Cacao City, Nutrarich Philippines, and Wit’s Sweets & Savouries along with Park Inn by Radisson Davao at malls’ The Atrium and The Annex Event Center, respectively.

Meanwhile, SM City General Santos aims to promote the chocolate products of cacao producers and processors in the SOCSKSARGEN area.  The demand for chocolate in Region XII has grown increasingly which has created multiple opportunities for the region’s local cacao industry and motivated chocolate producers to improve their production and make quality products.

SM CDO Downtown will also highlight local chocolatiers and cacao producers from Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro that are now making their names in the industry. These brands are Tsoko Co., Pagmaya Chocolates, Mang Kiko’s Cacao, Jodaca Farms, Tablea ni Mommy Sha, and Sabroso Farm.

The Mindanao-wide chocolate fair is an offshoot of the first celebration of Davao City’s anniversary as the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines following the enactment of Republic Act 11547 on May 27, 2021.
