Every scene in the film "Under Parallel Skies," from 28 Squared Studios, is a charming portrayal of a love tale developing against the enduring beauty of Hong Kong. 

In this romance set in Asia's World City, Filipino actress Janella Salvador and Thai actor Win Metawin have a surprising on-screen chemistry despite their different backgrounds. The plot develops as Iris, played by Janella, helps Parin, played by Win, in finding his mother, and their bond blooms against the backdrop of Hong Kong. Through its numerous places and attractions, "Under Parallel Skies" highlights the city's hidden charm and provides an alternative viewpoint to what visitors typically expect from Hong Kong.

Peng Chau

Peng Chau is “a place you don’t usually see from Hong Kong,” as lead actress Janella put it. She continues to praise the positive qualities of the island's slow pace, where residents commute by bicycle rather than by car.  In the movie, Parin manages to inject some humor by persuading Iris to sample silkworms, a delicacy native to Thailand. The place where they purchased the snack is a legitimate business on the island known as Siyamon Thai Cooking. Many of the more lighthearted scenes featuring Parin and Iris were filmed in My Secret Garden, an open art area with entertaining displays. And finally, (spoiler warning) the cafe that played a significant role in the film is a real cafe named Chill Chill Country.

Peng Chau is a truly picturesque place that offers you a glimpse of authentic rural life. The charming island is dotted with Instagram and photography-worthy spots — from remains of an old factory, beaches, and temples, to street arts which add vibrancy to this tranquil community. Its paths are the ideal spot to spend some alone time with your thoughts and the surrounding natural beauty, or they can inspire ideas of a potential meet-cute.

Some of the most poignant scenes in the movie take place at the Avenue of Stars, a Hong Kong staple that is sure to dazzle anyone who visits. Taking in the view of the ocean while standing in the middle of all the lights will undoubtedly trigger the same emotions as certain movie moments. 

You can enjoy a romantic time in the city while being surrounded by picturesque buildings and having a front-row seat to the city's famous Symphony of Lights performance.

Bird Market

The Bird Market is a fascinating place for people who love being around animals as well as those looking for unique pets. Birds are a recurring symbol throughout the movie. Causeway Bay Sogo crossing

Iris makes a comment regarding changes and transitions in life in the movie. The Causeway Bay crossing is the best visual representation of this, as it's where the biggest transitions happen in the city.  It is the epitome of a busy place and a symbol of Hong Kong's fast-paced urban lifestyle.

Tin Hau Temple at Yau Ma Tei

One theme touched upon by the film is fate, with Iris and Parin visiting the Tin Hau temple to find out their fortune and what the future holds for them. Fishermen swarm to the temple, which is a recognized landmark in Hong Kong, to worship the Goddess of the Sea. It's a location for the more spiritually inclined, and spending some time in solitude there is the ideal way to unwind from Hong Kong's hectic daily schedule.

Tai O Fishing Village

Speaking about fishing and fishermen, Tai O is the fishing village where Hong Kong's residents live, hidden away at the tip of Lantau Island. The movie shows its serene waters and how life could be easier in a place like Tai O. The iconic Tai O Heritage Hotel, appealing hiking trails, traditional restaurant fare, and street snacks are all located here. The little boats and the salty fragrance of the water will definitely make this a memorable spot. Look out for regional Tai O items including dried seafood, salted fish, and shrimp paste.

You can find Little Thailand in Kowloon City. The movie has a humorous moment that makes mention to this place as well as Win's own nation in a kind and considerate way. SM Supermalls unveils its largest solar panel system, scales up sustainability in Santa Rosa, Laguna

SM Supermalls has recently unveiled the company’s largest self-used rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system to date at SM City in Santa Rosa, Laguna, installed across over 2 hectares of the mall’s building. With this recent milestone of scaling the company’s efforts towards energy efficiency, SM Prime reaffirms its commitment towards building for a sustainable future as it progresses towards its Net-Zero Ambition by 2040.

The largest solar panel system of SM Supermalls in SM City Santa Rosa has recently received a Certificate of Compliance by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

 

Doubling down on energy efficiency

The solar PV system at SM City Santa Rosa which has recently received the Certificate of Compliance (COC) from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is composed of 5,772 panels at 3.088 MWp capacity and has an annual solar energy production of up to 4.292GWh. The installation of the solar PV system at SM City Santa Rosa will power 15% of the mall’s energy consumption needs.

SM Supermalls first started installing solar PV systems in 2014 at SM City North EDSA—the first mall in the Philippines to harness solar energy. In 2016, the solar power facility in SM Mall of Asia with twice the capacity of SM North EDSA was installed. Harnessing solar energy as a clean and renewable source of energy, SM Supermalls has reduced reliance on the power grid, which is helpful during times when rising electricity demand is caused by increased temperatures.

SM Supermalls is also part of the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) of the Department of Energy that provides 110MW of power for communities across the Philippines. 56 malls use their own generator sets instead of relying on the power grid, which has proven helpful when there are local power interruptions and power supply needs to be rationed. SM has the largest contribution among the private sector with SM Mall of Asia providing the highest committed capacity at 15.92MW for this program.

All 85 malls of SM Supermalls are energy efficient. Every mall maximizes natural lighting, through skylights and windows, and all malls have used LED lighting since 2018, ensuring energy efficiency.

SM Supermalls emerges as one of the Philippines' largest job creators

In commemoration of Labor Day last May 1, SM Supermalls reaffirmed its commitment to fostering employment opportunities for Filipinos by hosting simultaneous nationwide job fairs. Partnering with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Public Employment Service Offices (PESO), Local Government Units (LGUs), industry associations, and SM Retail, SM Supermalls proudly facilitated these events as part of its community efforts.

As one of the largest job creators in the Philippines, SM Supermalls is dedicated to reducing unemployment by holding weekly job fairs across its extensive network of malls. During the May 1 job fair alone, SM Supermalls welcomed nearly 20,000 job seekers, with a significant number receiving on-the-spot job offers, totaling more than 2,000 newly employed individuals. This demonstrates the effectiveness of these initiatives in connecting individuals with immediate employment opportunities.

Three friends continue on their path to monkhood in this fourth installment of the Pee Nak series. This time, they find themselves at the Ghost Mask Festival, which is—surprise!—cursed. Do Min Joon becomes targeted by a new, terrifying Pee Nak spirit, and Balloon and First must confront this haunting challenge alongside him. What ensues is their encounter with the supernatural and comedic challenges but in the end, will they achieve what they initially sought for?

Meet the Cast: Aim Witthawat Rattanaboonbaramee reprises his role as Balloon and has been in all 4 Pee Nak series to date. Likewise, James Bhuripat Vejvongsatechawat also returns a fourth time to play the role of First. The movie is directed by Mike Phontharis Chotkijsadarsopon, who is also behind the genius that is Hoon Payoon—another hit Thai horror comedy film released in 2023.

How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (Drama) (SM Exclusive)

Meet the Cast: Thai actor and singer Billkin Putthipong Assratanakul plays the role of M in the movie. He is known for his role in the hit boys love drama, I Told Sunset About You and its sequel, I Promised You the Moon. Usha Seamkhum plays the role of Amah, M’s 79-year old grandmother who is diagnosed with late stage colon cancer. The film also features Tu Tontawan Tantivejakul (known for being the female lead in F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers) plays M’s cousin, Mui.

The Garfield Movie (Animation, Comedy)

In this movie we learn that Garfield was abandoned when he was still a kitten, and is lovingly adopted by Jon together with a puppy named Odie. Fast forward to the future during one eventful night, Garfield and Odie are kidnapped by dogs working for Jinx, a show cat seeking revenge against Vic, Garfield's absentee father. He and Odie were asked to produce 1,672 bottles of milk within 72 hours, making them go through obstacles like an electric fence and cheese shredder. Through teamwork and newfound courage, Garfield steps out of his comfort zone to confront Jinx and secure the milk, learning valuable lessons along the way.

IMAX, SM Cinema expand partnership in Philippines With Multi-Theater Deal

SM Cinema, the Philippines' largest exhibitor, and IMAX are expanding their partnership significantly with 10 new IMAX with Laser systems in the market. This deal not only doubles IMAX's presence but also introduces the IMAX experience to three new locations while upgrading seven existing systems across the SM Cinema network.

Expected to roll out in 2024, three upgraded locations will open initially, with the rest scheduled before 2026. Since 2006, IMAX and SM Cinema have operated nine locations together in the Philippines, with the market emerging as a top-performing hub in Southeast Asia for IMAX, consistently ranking among the top 30 highest-grossing IMAX markets globally since 2022.
