Uniqlo, SM Foundation Donated Emergency Go Bag Kits to Flood-Prone Barangays in Zamboanga City

Aiming to support the recovery of the typhoon-affected families, Uniqlo and SM Foundation have been working together to make a positive impact in communities.

As part of its 5 Million donations, the fast retailing fashion brand Uniqlo previously donated 563 sets of dinner wares to typhoon-affected families in Zamboanga City; 469 sets of which were given to residents of Barangay Tumaga, and 94 sets were distributed to families taking shelter in Cabatangan evacuation site.

Barangay Tugbungan, headed by its chieftain Mr. Amit Rojas, received the Emergency Go Bag Kit donated by SM Foundation and Uniqlo which will be used during emergency response.

Aside from the dinner wares, SM employee-volunteers led by its Mall Manager Ms. Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez also donated Emergency Go Bag Kits to two flood-prone barangays in the city: Barangay Tugbungan and Tumaga. Each Emergency Go Bags contain first aid kits, oxygen tank, BP and stethoscope, pulse oximeter, thermometer, emergency bag, flashlight and thermal blanket.

Barangay Captain Jacqueline Lim of Tumaga Barangay Council received the Emergency Go Bag Kit from Uniqlo and SM Foundation.

To note, the employee-volunteers of SM City Mindpro also immediately mobilized its Operation Tulong Express and brought Kalinga food packs to flood-affected families in evacuation sites of Barangays Tumaga, Ayala, and Pasonanca.

Since 2012, Uniqlo and SM Foundation have been working together in spreading social good in communities, which are all intended to improve the quality of life of Filipinos. SM Foundation – the CSR arm of SM actively partners with organizations and government agencies to further strengthen its reach to grassroot communities.

SM FOUNDATION OPENS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

SM Foundation, Inc. has officially announced the start of the application for SM Scholarship Program for 2023.

The SM Scholarship Program started from the vision of the late SM patriarch, Henry “Tatang” Sy, Sr. He believed that if you send one child from an economically challenged family to college, that child would have more opportunities to have gainful employment and later on uplift the economic status of his/her family.

Once accepted, the college scholar will enjoy choice of specialization in accounting, information technology, engineering, and education. The SMFI scholar will also enjoy full tuition, monthly allowance and even part-time job opportunities, and exclusive job offers with the SM group upon graduation.

The scholarship program is open to all Grade 12 graduates from public and private schools in the areas covered. Applicants from private schools must have a DepEd voucher and must be Grade 10 finishers from public high schools. The applicant must have a general weighted average grade of at least 92% or its equivalent for Grade 12 - 1st semester, and must have a total household income of at most P250,000 per year.

Uniqlo, SM Foundation donated dinner sets to typhoon-affected families in Zamboanga City

As part of its 5M donation, the fast retailing fashion brand Uniqlo donated more than 500 dinnerware sets to typhoon-affected families in Zamboanga City last January 27.

94 families in Cabatangan evacuation center and 469 families in Tumaga were recipients of the dinner sets which were turned over by SM City Mindpro employee-volunteers led by its Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Rommel Bellen.

“Many of them did not recovered yet from the effects of TS Paeng. Uniqlo and SM Foundation’s donation is very timely and we saw how happy and grateful they were when they received the dinnerware sets”, shared Engr. Rommel Bellen.

To note, Philippines’ 16th Tropical Cyclone (Paeng) made its first landfall On October 29, 2022 which displaced more than 12,000 families in Zamboanga City alone. (SM City Mindpro PR)

SM Foundation Donated Kalinga Packs to LPA Affected Families in Zamboanga City

Another round of Operation Tulong Express was activated by SM Foundation, through SM City Mindpro, which aided 1,300 families affected in the recent Low Pressure Area in Zamboanga City.

Operation Tulong Express was activated by SM Foundation to help families affected by the recent flooding in Tetuan, Zamboanga City due to an LPA in the area.

Staying true to its commitment to being one of the first responders during disasters, SM City Mindpro employee-volunteers led the distribution of Kalinga Packs to Barangays Tetuan and Sta. Maria, its tenant employees, and agency partners who were greatly affected by heavy rainfall and flashflood caused by an LPA last January 11.

Moreover, SM City Mindpro, in partnership with Philippine Red Cross, reactivated its Operation Tulong Express booth at the ground level accepting cash donations. Proceeds will be turned over to Philippine Red Cross Zamboanga Chapter for their emergency response initiatives.
