SM City Mindpro Powers Greener Future with the Launch of E-Vehicle Charging Station

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines, 13th May 2026 – SM City Mindpro officially marked another milestone in sustainable development with the launch of its first-in-the-region E-Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) at the Level 3 Carpark Building on May 12, reinforcing SM Supermalls’ commitment to environmental stewardship under the SM Green Movement.

The launching ceremony was graced by City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso, together with City Planning and Development Office Assistant Coordinator Jessie Christopher Lapinid, alongside partners, stakeholders, and guests from both the public and private sectors.

The newly launched EVCS is part of SM Supermalls’ nationwide initiative to promote greener mobility solutions and encourage more environmentally responsible practices among communities. As electric vehicles continue to gain traction across the country, the charging station provides accessible support infrastructure for EV users in Zamboanga City.

In his message of support, Mayor Olaso commended SM City Mindpro for taking proactive steps toward sustainability and innovation, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between the private sector and local government in creating environmentally conscious communities.

Meanwhile, SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez welcomed guests and underscored the importance of collective action in building a more sustainable future.

“The launch of our E-Vehicle Charging Station is more than just providing infrastructure for electric vehicles. It symbolizes our commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and supporting cleaner mobility solutions for the benefit of future generations,” she said.

The EVCS launch forms part of SM Supermalls’ continuing sustainability efforts, which include waste management initiatives, energy efficiency programs, water conservation practices, and environmental awareness campaigns under the SM Green Movement.

Through projects like the EVCS, your most-loved SM City Mindpro continues to strengthen its role not only as a lifestyle destination, but also as a partner in driving positive environmental change in the community.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines, 21st April 2026 — In a powerful stride toward a greener and more sustainable future, SM City Mindpro has officially partnered with Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) headed by its President, Dr. Roy Valesco, through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing for the Trash to Cash Program, reinforcing a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment.

The partnership brings together the strengths of SM City Mindpro and ZSCMST to promote responsible waste management, recycling, and environmental education—transforming everyday waste into valuable resources while instilling eco-conscious habits among students, shoppers, and the wider community.

At the heart of the initiative is the Trash to Cash Market, a monthly recycling program held at SM City Mindpro every first Friday and Saturday of the month. The program encourages the public to bring recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and other waste items, which are then properly sorted and exchanged for cash incentives. More than just a recycling drive, it creates a culture of sustainability by making environmental action accessible, rewarding, and impactful.

Through the collaboration, ZSCMST—known for its strong advocacy in marine conservation and environmental protection—will play a vital role in mobilizing students, faculty, and partner communities to actively participate in the program. The partnership also opens doors for joint environmental campaigns, awareness drives, and educational initiatives that highlight the importance of protecting coastal and marine ecosystems.

This initiative is part of the broader SM Green Movement, SM’s umbrella program that champions sustainable practices across all its properties nationwide. The SM Green Movement focuses on waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, and climate action, empowering communities to take part in building a more sustainable future.

With this partnership, SM City Mindpro and ZSCMST are not just managing waste—they are shaping mindsets, inspiring collective action, and proving that sustainability is a shared journey where every small step counts.

SM Prime: Holistic Retail Architecture for Climate and Community

As conversations around climate action intensify, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. believes that climate-smart solutions should translate into practical, everyday benefits for business and communities.

A sky sanctuary like no other. The entire MOA Sky in SM Mall of Asia runs on solar power. Shading the walkways on the roof deck are solar panels that power the grounds of what can be considered a modern marvel in any retail architecture, with an amphitheater and a FIFA-grade football pitch.

Starting from LED retrofits as an early energy-efficiency initiative in the 90s, to solar-powered outdoor parasols and revitalized open-space concepts, for SM Supermalls, it’s a new era for sustainable retail architecture.

From systems design to systems impact

Creating an environment that supports businesses, local communities, and the social-cultural events of a neighborhood has been part of elevating the Filipino shopping experience for SM Supermalls.

SM City Puerto Princesa makes use of design elements as shading devices to reduce energy for air conditioning cooling requirements, without sacrificing natural light.

Behind the scenes, its holistic building approach – from water, waste, and energy efficiency systems, to mall designs that make spaces work harder for people – allows daily operations to flow smoothly, making spaces more comfortable, sustainable, and future-ready.

The high ceilings and bright spaces in the new SM La Union reduce energy consumption during the mall’s daytime operations, allowing mallgoers to bask in the sun while completing shopping errands.

Natural lighting and passive design strategies reduce energy consumption during the day and are combined with large atriums, high ceilings, skylights, open spaces, and sky gardens to illuminate extensive areas of the mall.

More than just a vehicle to favorite stores, a mall’s escalators are an enormous convenience to shoppers and can drive sales for tenant-partners. To conserve power, motion-sensor escalators have intelligent control systems that detect low passenger load. Visitors in SM Supermalls are also encouraged to get their steps in – located at strategic areas are stairs for the health-conscious population.

A crowd drawer of the healthy kind, SM Supermalls presents a creative way to remind mallgoers they can get their steps in.

Air conditioning is a must-have in the shopping space. To minimize environmental impact, SM Prime has long invested in advanced cooling systems, which also provide substantial operational savings and reduced water usage.

In some of the hotter areas of the metro, Big Ass Fans are also deployed to work in conjunction with the building’s air conditioning systems, enhancing cooling and increasing their effectiveness.

Setting the standard in urban renewable energy adoption, SM Supermalls also has one of the largest solar portfolios in the Philippines. Currently, 48 SM Supermalls are equipped with on-site renewable energy, reducing the need to draw power from the grid.

A future to share

Progress in climate action must translate into real benefits. For SM Prime, it is a long-term investment in public well-being and the future resilience of Filipino communities.

Across its malls, SM Prime creates quality urban life. In SM Bicutan, solar-powered parasols light up its Sky Garden, giving a view of the neighborhood and a desirable space to be with friends.

The SM Green Movement journey continues for SM Supermalls, balancing the needs of people, business, and the planet.

“We have long thought of our mall spaces as bringing communities together and creating tangible connections that last for generations. Every improvement to become energy efficient is meant to give a more sustainable and enjoyable experience,” says SM Supermalls president Steven Tan.
