To start off the celebration, SM City Cebu and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. present the Treasures of Devotion, a virtual exhibition of religious objects or objects of devotion. Through photo and video documentation, the religious objects found in diocesan and parish museums and private collections in Cebu were catalogued, unearthing layers of memories and experiences accrued by generations of believers and discovering stories of faith and devotion as shown, shaped, and sustained by these religious artifacts.  The exhibition is located at the first level of the North Wing, and is ongoing until January 31.

The Order of Saint Augustine brings to the Cebuanos the OSANino @ 40 exhibit at the Cube Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu which is ongoing until January 21, 2024.  The Augustinian Friars of the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu – Philippines celebrate with great joy the 40th anniversary of their juridical existence as a Province and with grateful hearts thank the Lord for this grace-filled period of religious witnessing to the Charism of the Order and of fruitful service to the Church in the Philippines and in other parts of the world.

ART EXHIBIT
Shoppers are also invited to witness the Sto. Nino painting exhibit by Friday Group Sessionistas from January 10 to 24 at the level 3 Seaview Wing of SM Seaside City Cebu. The exhibit highlights on the Santo Niño and is timed with the celebration of the Sinulog festival, which honors the Holy Child.

Sining Filipina National Art Competition now open for entries until January 31, 2024

In a celebration of art, women empowerment, and the boundless creativity of Filipina artists, BDO Unibank, Inc. and SM Supermalls, in collaboration with the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, proudly announce the launch of the first-ever all-female national art competition in the Philippines – Sining Filipina.

Entries for Sining Filipina, the pioneering all-female national art competition in the Philippines, are being accepted until January 31, 2024.

This groundbreaking competition aims to provide a platform for Filipinas to express their artistic talents, promoting them as originators of art and empowering them in the creative realm. With both Figurative and Non-Figurative categories, Sining Filipina invites participants to showcase their unique perspectives on the contemporary woman.

SM Foundation, Mastercard help bridge gaps in online learning

Amidst the varied challenges of the past three years, the world witnessed solidarity and the power of sharing a vision. People from diverse backgrounds joined forces to support students in adapting to online learning, fostering resilience and longlasting impact on youth. In October 2021, the SM Group and Mastercard teamed up through the SM Store Shop & Share campaign, enabling customers to gift e-tablets to 1,210 SM Foundation scholars, including Monica Zapanta and Robin Raton. These students faced challenges transitioning to online education, struggling with outdated devices, and limited resources.

Representatives of SM group and Mastercard, led by SMFI Executive Director Debbie Sy, SMFI Education Program’s Executive Director Linda Atayde and SAVP Eleanor Lansang, SM Store Vice President for Marketing Roshan Nandwani, SM Retail, Inc. CFO Jonathan Ng, and Simon Calasanz, Country Manager, Philippines, Mastercard at the ceremonial check turnover, following the success of the Shop & Give Back.

Monica, a Computer Science student, needed a device for coding and classes, while Robin, an education student, required multiple applications for video conferencing and productivity. The new tablets, provided through this initiative, alleviated their financial burden and enhanced their learning experiences.

Robin shared, “With the help of Mastercard and The SM Store, we allocated the money I saved for my family’s needs, such as food and daily expenses.” This tablet allowed him to complete vital tasks for his education and extend a helping hand to his brother for school research.

Monica found the tablet’s power efficiency to be a game-changer during internet or electricity outages, enabling her to stay focused on her studies. Beyond academics, the tablets facilitated balance in their student lives, offering a helping hand to others and serving various purposes.

“The e-tablet inspired me to strive. It lessened the financial burden and stress that comes along with pursuing higher education. It has enabled me to focus more on my studies rather than constantly worrying if I’ll finish the things I need to complete,” she said.

This collaborative effort, driven by the SM group’s commitment to education’s transformative power, aims to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through ongoing partnerships with like-minded organizations.

SM City Mindpro shares Bears of Joy to various SPED Centers in Zamboanga City

It is truly heartwarming how a simple teddy bear can spark so much joy in a child. The project dubbed as “Bears of Joy” is a long-running annual project of SM Supermalls where mall shoppers may purchase a pair of plush bears – one of which they keep and the other to give for donation to the less privileged children in the community or to a chosen beneficiary.

This year, SM debuts their very first B-POP (short for Bear Pop) group, the Bear Pop Squad. This collection features four brand-new designs that draw inspiration from the K-POP and P-POP community, and highlights the unity and togetherness in fan culture when it comes to celebrating shared interests. The SM Bears of Joy campaign also intends to bring much-needed smiles to children and allow SM’s community of shoppers to contribute to spreading joy and charity to other people.

In Zamboanga City, SM City Mindpro employee-volunteers led the distribution to one hundred eighty three (183) children from Putik Central School SPED Center and Sta. Maria Central School SPED Center. Tetuan Central School SPED Center is scheduled to receive the plush bears on January 8.

“Every year, we encourage our shoppers to remember the importance of charity, sharing, and giving, especially in time of Christmas season. During the distribution, we saw the joy in the eyes of these children and it’s truly a heart-warming experience,” shared SM City Mindpro’s Tenant Relations Manager, Jodie Durens.

SM CITY MINDPRO ACTIVATES OPERATION TULONG EXPRESS (OPTE) TO AID TUGBUNGAN FIRE VICTIMS

In the wake of the devastating fire that struck Calle Basa, Tugbungan on December 27, SM, a steadfast advocate for community welfare, has swiftly activated Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) to provide urgent assistance to the affected residents.

SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez shares an inspiring message to the fire victims of Calle Basa, Tugbungan temporarily housed in Cabatangan Evacuation Center.

The fire, which tragically displaced two hundred sixty three (263) families and caused substantial damage, has prompted a coordinated response from SM. Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) was initiated to address the most pressing needs of the fire victims and to offer swift relief during this challenging time.

Through its OPTE program, employee volunteers of SM City Mindpro distributed the relief packs containing rice, noodles, bottled water, and canned goods to 263 families at Tugbungan Barangay Hall and evacuees temporarily housed in Cabatangan Evacuation Center.

Fulfilling its “Supporting Communities” promise, SM Foundation serves communities through outreach initiatives like this, as well as provide customers nationwide with relevant and helpful services.
